Portugal. The Man’s ‘Tanana’ Tops Adult Alternative Airplay Chart
Portugal. The Man returns to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart as “Tanana” tops the survey dated Dec. 6.
It’s the rock band’s fourth ruler and first since “What, Me Worry?” reigned for three weeks in 2022.
In between the two leaders, the group reached the tally once, with the No. 6-peaking “Dummy” in 2023.
Portugal. The Man’s other two No. 1s are “Feel It Still,” in 2017, and “Live in the Moment,” in 2018. The former ruled for 11 weeks, a run that hasn’t been bested since; the closest is a pair of 10-week commands for Mumford & Sons’ “Guiding Light” (2018) and Hozier’s “Too Sweet” (2024).
The band first reached the ranking in 2011 with the No. 25 hit “People Say.” It first reached any Billboard chart in 2007.
Concurrently, “Tanana” lifts 25-23 on the Alternative Airplay list. On the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, it ranks at No. 27, after reaching No. 26, with 1.5 million audience impressions in the week ending Nov. 27, according to Luminate.
“Tanana” is on Shish, Portugal. The Man’s 10th studio album and first distributed by Thirty Tigers after the act released music through Atlantic beginning in the early 2010s. The set arrived Nov. 7.
The band is currently on tour, with shows this week in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. More U.S. dates are scheduled this year before it heads to Europe for gigs beginning in February.
All Billboard charts dated Dec. 6 will update tomorrow, Dec. 2, on Billboard.com.
