Your Stories Q&A: More than 150 apartments proposed near The Links at Erie Village

MANLIUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — You ask, we answer!

Question: What’s happening with the former Doow Lumber/Materials Direct off N. Burdick Street? Is it true there’s a proposal to build a large apartment complex?

It is true, however, the proposal is in the beginning phases. Nothing has been approved by the Town of Manlius or the town’s planning board.

According to documents and renderings filed with the Town of Manlius, Brolex Properties is wanting to build a mixed-use development on nearly 6 acres of land at 5912 N. Burdick Street. The development would have apartments, retail and office space.

The current property is home to Materials Direct. A representative with the project, told the town’s planning board that the owner of the property would move the current business to another location to make room for the mixed-use proposed development.

The property is near the Links at Erie Village golf course.

According to documents, two buildings would be built on the property. Building ‘A’ would be 125,000 sq. ft., with 114 apartments. It would also have 8,200 sq. ft. of commercial space.

Building ‘B’ would be 58,489 sq. ft., with 58 apartment units.

This plan is far from a done deal. When the proposal was introduced to the planning board on June 10, members of the board were skeptical of the project, including its size, number of floors (four) and location.

A representative with the proposed development said they would go back and adjust their plans.

The Town of Manlius said a public hearing on the project is scheduled for July 24.
