LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — As the hot sun beams down and temperatures surge through the roof, it’s easy to forget how quickly our bodies can lose water when it’s extremely hot.

This is concerning as temperatures continue to climb to dangerous levels this week, making it crucial that you’re aware of what to do to stay healthy and safe.

But what’s most concerning to Upstate Global Health Director Dr. Stephen Thomas is the mindset, he says people are unaware of how severe dehydration can be.

“You should be drinking at least 12 ounces of water every single hour so you should be finishing one bottle of water an hour and your families should be doing the same,” advised Dr. Thomas.

It’s advised to seek medical attention if you are experiencing symptoms such as cold clammy skin, dizziness, and nausea.

“I don’t think they realize how quickly it can start causing problems for us and health problems for us, especially to some very vulnerable organs like our kidneys for example and what can happen to adults can happen even quicker to children,” Dr. Thomas.

This is just one tip to keep in mind to keep cool as the temp heats up.
