Fire damages Jefferson County diner over the weekend

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – A longtime north country restaurant was damaged by fire over the weekend in Watertown.
Fire crews responded to Longway’s Diner on State Route 342 just after 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 17. According to North Pole Fire Department’s Facebook page, multiple calls were received on the blaze and all reports indicated working fire with heavy smoke and flames showing.
The the fire was knocked down in around 30 minutes and a number of neighboring departments responded. North Pole, Pamelia, Glen Park, City of Watertown, Calcium, Black River, Evans Mills Fire departments all responded to the call.
Evans Mills Ambulance, Jefferson County Fire and Emergency Management, New York State Police, Jefferson County Sheriffs Office, Fire Cause and Origin Cars 31, 34, Car 410, National Grid, Town of Pamelia Supervisor and Highway Superintendent were also on the scene.
The diner thanked the public and emergency crews in a social media post. The restaurant said they are hopeful for the future and thanked everyone for the memories.
