Madison Bouckville Antique Show takes shoppers and buyers down memory lane

BOUCKVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Vendors, shoppers, and a whole lot of antiques at the Madison Bouckville Antique Show.

“Well, we have an elk, and we have a lot of collectibles, I’ve got civil war books I’ve got some really fantastic jars,” Vendor Gayle Porter said. “There are lots of Galvanized pales, wash tubs, water cans, and a little bit of this a little bit of that.”

For some at antique shows, the stuff just looks old, but for others, it’s a wonderful trip down memory lane.

“It wins my soul to be able to come out and just see memories of from when I was a kid you know and see the different license plates, everything, it’s silly but it’s fun,” said Arlene Stewart, a shopper at the show.

They say it’s a history buff’s dream, to see all the old postcards, collectible pottery, and vintage clothing, but it’s not just about the items.

“This is a very people to people business, people love to talk, they want to tell you their story where they’re from, there are people here from New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania and all throughout New York State,” Porter said.

David Allen, a long-time antique vendor says it gives old treasures a new life, but that he sees the hobby slowly changing.

“I guess it’s a change now and the outlook of the younger people they’re not collectors like the older people are and I’ve seen a lot of changes and obviously antiques change as far as what they’re looking for,” Allen, said.

They say every item has a story and every person has one too.
