Syracuse man pleads guilty to child pornography charges

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — On Tuesday, May 21, 31-year-old William Futrell from Syracuse pled guilty to 10 counts of possession of child pornography.
As part of his guilty plea, Futrell admitted that he used Snapchat to communicate with minors across the country. He offered money to minors to entice them to send him explicit images, with no intention of ever paying them.
On at least 10 occasions, Futrell received sexually explicit images from children.
He is already a registered sex offender with a previous possession of child pornography conviction in New York.
The current charges that Futrell pled guilty to carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, with a maximum sentence of 40 years.
If Chief United States District Judge Brenda K. Sannes accepts the sentence agreed to by prosecutors and Futrell, he will be sentenced to 262 months. He will also serve a parole sentence of five years to life after his release from prison.
Futrell also must pay a fine of up to $250,000 and restitution to the victims.
