CAYUGA COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A man from Lansing was sentenced to prison on April 23 for embezzling almost $300,000 from a Cayuga County Business.

Scott J. Brenchley was sentenced by Judge Hon. Jon E. Budelmann to one-and-a-half to four-and-a-half years in state prison upon his conviction of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree.

According to District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci, Brenchley was sentenced after
having pled guilty on Jan. 9, 2024.

From July 2022 through May 2023, Brenchley was employed as a controller for a Cayuga County agricultural business, and during that period, he stole over $280,000 from the business.

Brenchley stole the money by using forged checks from the business’s account to obtain cash. He also used the business’s credit card to make unauthorized purchases of personal items, including sports memorabilia items purchased online.

In addition to his prison sentence, the court ordered Brenchley to pay restitution to the business for the full amount of money that he stole.

The investigation was carried out by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Assistant District Attorney Chris Valdina handled the prosecution of the case.
