Rosamond Gifford Zoo to host Earth Day celebration

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo are looking to celebrate Earth Day this year.
On Saturday, April 20, its Novelis Party For the Planet will start at 10 a.m.
Novelis, a global leader in aluminum recycling and a Sustainability Sponsor for the zoo, alongside Equitable, will host this event.
They are looking to create an eco-event for the ages, bringing in dozens of conservation groups and thousands of visitors to the zoo to spotlight nature conservation and saving species, according to the zoo.
This event will have:
- Animal demonstrations and creature chats focused on endangered species
- Conservation-themed games and activities
- Green infrastructure and garden tours
- Sapling giveaway from Bartlett Tree Experts
- And more
The zoo’s Conservation Stations and Eco-partners will offer fun activities, giveaways and sustainability tips as well.
“Earth Day isn’t just about cleaning up trash – a world without litter is a great goal, but that is just the start,” said Carrie Large, executive director of the Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. “We want to set our sights higher and aim not just for a litter-free planet, but rather, for a world in which we are active stewards of the wonderful life around us. By encouraging our community to both clean up and create, we are teaching them to take care of existing wildlife, while nurturing a habitat for future wildlife!”
The zoo says guests can connect with fellow eco-enthusiasts by posting pictures of their Earth Day endeavors and tagging the zoo’s social media accounts.
