Solar Eclipse events and festivals in CNY

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Syracuse and upper parts of Central New York fall in the path of totality for the total solar eclipse happening on April 8, and many businesses are taking advantage of that.
During this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, businesses like the MOST, Beak & Skiff and more are hosting special events and festivals for the community to view the solar eclipse.

Central New York Businesses Hosting Solar Eclipse Events
1. The MOST
The MOST is hosting a Solar Eclipse Festival on April 8 to celebrate and bring the community together for this special event.
The outdoor festival starts at noon and ends at 4 p.m. and includes a viewing party of the eclipse around 3:23 p.m. as well as lots of fun activities from partners like TACNY and OCM BOCES, and food trucks.
“This awe-inspiring event is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to come together as we encourage wonder, celebrate community, and educate people of all ages about astronomy and space science. The next total eclipse in New York State will not take place until 2079,” stated the MOST.
All MOST members will receive a free solar eclipse viewing kit for their household — which includes one pair of glasses, a poster and activities related to the eclipse — if they stop by the MOST before April 6 while supplies last. At the event, extra glasses will also be available for free.
Parking will be available in the Trolley Lot behind the museum as the roadway loop around the MOST will be closed to traffic. Lawn chairs are not allowed. Please only bring blankets/tarps to sit on.
Lastly, if you want to explore the MOST before the eclipse, you can attend the Solar Eclipse Planetarium Show now through April 6, and see the Solar Eclipse Display in the MOST’s BUILD area.
“Total solar eclipses are a rare and beautiful phenomenon, and in this new planetarium show, you will learn how eclipses happen, how to safely view one, and where the 2024 eclipse will take place. Hear the history of eclipse watchers and how to observe safely,” stated the MOST.
The MOST will also be selling exclusive dinosaur-themed solar eclipse T-shirts at the Science Shop.
