Southwest Airlines to pull out of Syracuse

Syracuse, NY -(WSYR-TV) – Southwest Airlines informed the Syracuse Airport Authority Thursday morning that it will be pulling out of Syracuse Hancock International Airport in August.

The Airport Authority says the Southwest Airlines is due to the company retiring aging planes and Boeing delays. Those issues results in Southwest not receiving enough new planes to service all its markets.

Syracuse is one of a handfull of airports being dropped by Southwest.

Hancock Airport officals say the decision was not based on performance, as it was exceeding passenger counts Southwest was expecting from the Syracuse market.

Southwest Airlines started flying in and out of Hancock Airport in November, 2021.
