Steve Lacy Thought ‘It Was So Awesome’ That Drake Called Him a ‘Fragile Opp’: ‘This Is So Beautiful’
Nearly a year after Drake called Steve Lacy his “fragile opp,” the “Bad Habit” singer is still laughing about the backhanded compliment.
Lacy graced the cover of Rolling Stone on Thursday (Aug. 14), and a portion of the video interview saw him on a boat ride where he reflected on Drizzy referring to him while showing love to his music.
“I thought it was so awesome. I love Drake,” Lacy said. “I grew up listening to Drake and s—t, you know. I was like, ‘This is so beautiful.’ I didn’t know what it meant … And then Fousheé sent me a link and it was the video and I was like, ‘Whoa.’ I was so excited … I f—d with it. It was cool.”
The original diss came from a November stream of Drake on xQc’s platform, listening to Lacy’s No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit. “This guy’s like a fragile opp — it is a good song, though,” Drake said. “Chat knows what I’m talking about. Fragility.”
Many fans speculated that Drake was taking a dig at Lacy due to the Compton native performing at Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out concert last year.
Steve Lacy had a playful response to all the Drizzy-induced chaos at the time. “WAITTTTTT LMAOOOO WHAT IN THE,” he wrote. “Who tryna be my…fragile opp?”
Lacy also reposted Drake’s statement about him and captioned his IG Story with “Yoooooooooo” while the 6 God’s “I Get Lonely” provided the soundtrack.
As far as what’s ahead, the 27-year-old is plotting to release his OH YEAH? album in the coming months, which he called his “most confident” and “most personal” work to date.
