Megyn Kelly Urges President Donald Trump to Not Pardon Diddy: ‘He Doesn’t Deserve It’
Megyn Kelly is a Donald Trump supporter, but there is one thing he could do that the political commentator would definitely stand against: pardon Diddy.
Following reports that the president is contemplating pardoning Sean Combs following his trial — which found him guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution, but not any of the more serious accusations of sex-trafficking and racketeering levied against him — Kelly voiced her concern on X. “Trump should not pardon Diddy,” she wrote Wednesday (July 30). “He doesn’t deserve it.”
“He’s a Trump hater,” she continued of the Bad Boy Records mogul, something that 50 Cent has also pointed out to the president. “He’s a woman abuser. MAGA is already upset over elites seeming to cover for each other. This would not help. GOP struggling w/young female voters, most of whom will HATE a Diddy pardon.”
Billboard has reached out to Diddy’s reps for comment.
In the replies, Kelly linked a recent Deadline piece that quoted an “administration source” as saying Trump has “seriously considered” pardoning Combs. Other “insiders” added that the idea has gone from being “just another Trump weave to an actionable event” following the end of the disgraced hip-hop titan’s federal trial, which wrapped in early July.
Combs’ partial acquittal followed seven weeks of testimony from witnesses such as Cassie Ventura, who detailed how he allegedly abused and trafficked her during their relationship. The mogul had denied all of the accusations raised against him during the trial from the start, and now that it’s finished, he faces up to 20 years in prison ahead of his sentencing on Oct. 3.
That is, of course, if Trump doesn’t pardon him. However, Deadline‘s report follows the twice-impeached POTUS’ previous comments about pardoning Combs, with whom he used to be friends (or at least, Trump used to speak fondly of the music industry leader and ran in similar circles with him, according to the publication). In May, Trump told press that he “would certainly look at the facts” if he were called on to clear Combs, not ruling out the possibility of doing so.
And though Kelly has been backing Trump for years, this wouldn’t be the first time she’s disagreed with him on the basis of women’s interests. When he first ran for president in 2016, she was one of few conservatives who called out his misogynistic remarks against women; she later turned to his side, calling him a “protector of women” last November.
