Mariah Carey Reveals the Promise Rihanna Made (and Probably Didn’t Keep) After Mimi Signed Her Chest
At one of her holiday concerts in Brooklyn last year, Mariah Carey made her mark on Rihanna — literally. Months later, though, the Songbird Supreme is pretty sure it’s long gone.
While guesting on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night (July 24), Carey told guest host Fortune Feimster about the moment she autographed the Fenty mogul’s chest at a Christmas Time tour show in Brooklyn, N.Y. In a video of the moment that went viral last December, Mimi signed her name in red marker on Ri’s left breast, while Ri proclaimed, “Wow, this is iconic … Mariah Carey is signing my tit, y’all!”
When asked if she often signs people’s body parts at her shows, Carey replied, “Not really.”
“Sometimes on someone’s arm or something,” she continued, noting that the Smurfs star got special treatment. “That was a unique moment. We love Rihanna.”
As for whether Ri got the autograph tattooed as promised, the five-time Grammy winner remarked skeptically, “She said she was going to, but somehow, I don’t think that happened.”
Rihanna was one of thousands of fans who attended a stop on Carey’s 2024 holiday run, which built on the superstar’s tradition of scheduling Christmastime concerts to promote evergreen Billboard Hot 100 hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” each year. Carey is now gearing up to release Here for It All, her first studio album in seven years.
So far, Carey has shared “Type Dangerous” and “Sugar Sweet” featuring Kehlani and Shenseea from Here for It All, which will drop Sept. 26. When Feimster asked her why she kept fans waiting so long for new music after 2018’s Caution, Carey had a straightforward answer.
“I was just getting it together,” she replied on Kimmel. “I would make, like, four songs, and then I’d be like, ‘We can start making an album now,’ and then I’d never do it. Then I got up to 10 songs and we were basically ready for an album.”
