The Black Keys’ ‘The Night Before’ Reigns on Alternative Airplay
The Black Keys top Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart for the eighth time as “The Night Before” lifts a place to No. 1 on the May 10-dated tally.
The duo notches its first leader since “Beautiful People (Stay High)” led for two weeks in March 2024. In between its latest No. 1s, the act hit No. 16 last June with “On the Game.”
The Black Keys first led Alternative Airplay in 2010-11 with “Tighten Up.” The band’s other No. 1s: “Wild Child” (2022), “Lo/Hi” (2019), “Fever” (2014), “Gold on the Ceiling” (2012) and “Lonely Boy” (2011-12).
The group’s eight rulers ties it with U2 and Weezer for the seventh most No. 1s since the survey began in September 1988.

Previously, “The Night Before” spent three weeks at No. 1 on Adult Alternative Airplay; it places at No. 3 on the latest list. On the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, the song retains its No. 6 best with 3.1 million audience impressions,, up 2%, in the week ending May 1, according to Luminate.
“The Night Before” is the lead single from No Rain, No Flowers, The Black Keys’ upcoming 13th studio album and follow-up to 2024’s Ohio Players. Two songs from the new LP have been released so far, but no official release date has been announced.
