Rihanna Posts Totally Bananas Mom Hack She Uses to Get Her Sons’ Attention

It’s a story as old as time: no matter who cool you think you are — even if you’re one of the biggest pop idols on the planet — there are plenty of times your kids are just not interested in what you have to offer. That’s why it was helpful that Rihanna shared the super relatable mom hack she uses to capture the attention of the two boys she shares with longtime partner rapper A$AP Rocky, RZA, 2 and Riot Rose, 20 months.

In an Instagram Story on Sunday (April 27) RihRih posted a video of her mouth and eyes superimposed on a banana filter with the caption “Since my kids love bananas so much but wanna ignore me.” To really make the point about the boys not paying attention to her, the singer soundtracked the silly clip with a snippet of H.E.R.’s 2016 song “Focus.”

And while the kids are seemingly not listening, Rocky said in a new Vogue cover story celebrating his upcoming gig as a 2025 Met Gala co-chair that his grandma is totally locked in on Rihanna. The rapper said Grandma Cathy always knew he was destined for big things, but that she’s especially proud of her grandson’s partnership with the “Lift Me Up” singer. “She loves her some RiRi,” Rocky said of his father’s mother. I’m glad that he settled down, and I’m happy with who he settled down with,” said Cathy. “[Rihanna’s] a down-​to-​earth person.”

Though Rihanna seems unimpressed with the toddlers’ attention spans, Rocky said RZA “stays to himself” and loves books, while Riot loves attention. “He likes to take stuff from his brother so his brother can chase him,” Rocky said of their youngest. Rocky will co-chair the upcoming Met Gala (May 5) alongside Pharrell Williams, actor Colman Domingo and Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton.
