Atlantic Records to Release ‘EPIC: The Musical’ on Vinyl for First Time

For the first time, music from the audio sensation EPIC: The Musical will be available in physical form, thanks to a partnership between Atlantic Records and the project’s creator, Jorge Rivera-Herrans.

The association kicks off Wednesday (Sept. 10) with a limited-edition $350 nine-vinyl EP, holographic mega box set available only through Sunday (Sept. 14).

Rivera-Herrans began writing the audio-only sung-through retelling of Homer’s ancient Greek poem The Odyssey in 2019 while attending the University of Notre Dame, where he switched majors from medicine to film, theater, television and music. He started documenting his process on social media in 2021, when he posted a segment of the song “Full Speed Ahead,” which went viral.  The Ocean Saga, the first of the nine sagas, dropped in 2023, with new sagas releasing every few months. The final saga came out last December. Rivera-Herrans, who played Odysseus, cast the other parts online, assembling an ensemble of 25 performers from around the world.

“Jorge is one of the most dynamic and prolific creative forces of his generation, and EPIC has already become a global phenomenon,” said Atlantic Records’ West Coast president Kevin Weaver in a statement. “At Atlantic, we see limitless potential in this partnership. With Jorge’s vision and artistry, we’re excited to create groundbreaking fan experiences that will expand EPIC into a truly multi-dimensional universe for years to come.”

Eight of the sagas, including The Ocean Saga, The Circle Saga and The Cyclops Saga, charted in the top 3 on Billboard’s Cast Albums chart, with four titles reaching No. 1. Following a late 2024 change by Billboard that shifted concept albums not from a theatrically staged show from the Cast Albums chart to the Compilation Albums chart, EPIC’s last two chapters, The Vengeance Saga and The Ithaca Saga, both topped the latter tally. Several of the 40 original songs, including “God Games,” “Little Wolf,” “Love in Paradise” and “We’ll Be Fine,” reached the top 10 on Spotify’s Top Songs Debut USA chart. Songs from Epic have surpassed 3 billion global streams, according to Atlantic.

Several more configurations beyond the mega box set are already planned, including a 3-CD complete series box set and individual vinyl pressings of the first three chapters: The Troy Saga, The Cyclops Saga, and The Ocean Saga. Atlantic will also offer a custom storage box that will hold all nine saga LPs. All merchandise, including the mega box, will be available through epicthemusical.com.

“I’m still in awe at it all. I started this project in my dorm room in college and then later recorded it all in a vocal booth I built with my dad and now I’m partnering with Atlantic on vinyl!” Rivera-Herrans tells Billboard. “This is a dream come true and I’m so thankful for everyone who helped us get to this point! It has been such a delight getting to collaborate with Atlantic Records on this vinyl release. Their dedication to creating the best possible experience means so much to me; no goal ever felt too large, no dream too crazy. Until now, EPIC lived entirely in the digital world, but for the very first time, you can actually hold it in your hands!”

Rivera-Herrans, who was inspired by anime, video games and animation to create EPIC, had commissioned animatic scenes for certain songs, and fans have also shared their own artwork and animatics across social media. Atlantic’s initial drop will include the release of new animatics.

“A lot of love and care went into designing the art pieces featured in the mega box. With art direction by Jonathan Sanchez, every detail from the vinyl discs to the box itself was created with intention and heart,” Rivera-Herrans continued. “Giulia Toneatto’s renditions of the cover arts are breathtaking and Luiza Xavier Mazzei’s gorgeous gatefold illustrations are filled with hidden gems for those with keen eyes.”

The EPIC news follows Atlantic’s Aug. 15 digital release of the original Broadcast cast recording of the six-time Tony-nominated Just in Time, as well as the release of the cast recordings for Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen and The Notebook in recent years. Additionally, Atlantic has recently released the soundtracks to films and TV series including Barbie, Twisters, F1 and Hazbin Hotel.
