Shakira Invites Belinda to Perform ‘Día de Enero’ With Her at Mexico Concert
Belinda surprised Shakira fans who attended the Colombian superstar’s eleventh concert on Saturday (Aug. 30) at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City. The Mexican singer joined Shakira on stage to perform the iconic ballad “Día de Enero” together, creating one of the most emotional moments of Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran international tour.
The Mexican pop star became the second female guest artist of the tour, following fellow Mexican singer Danna’s appearance earlier that week (August 26) during the kick-off of the second leg of the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour in the Mexican capital.
“Tonight, I have the pleasure of singing with someone who is a true example of hard work, perseverance, talent, and beauty,” Shakira said while introducing Belinda to the 65,000 fans who packed the venue, according to promoter OCESA.
Belinda, dressed in a shiny silver crop top, white fringe pants, and platform shoes, joined Shakira during the acoustic segment of the show to sing the heartfelt track. The song, originally dedicated to Shakira’s ex-partner Antonio de la Rúa, is from her 2005 album, Fijación Oral Vol. 1.
This special version of “Día de Enero” blended Belinda’s soft and sweet vocals with Shakira’s signature melancholic touch, making for a moving duet. Shakira hadn’t performed the song live since 2007, but it made its way back into her setlist on Aug. 11, when she began the second leg of the tour in Tijuana, Mexico.
Belinda and Shakira’s friendship appears to have grown closer since they were spotted together at a party thrown by Venezuelan singer and content creator Lele Pons in Miami in 2024, a celebration of Shakira’s track “Soltera” whose guests included Danna and Kenia OS.
At the end of Saturday night’s performance, an emotional Belinda knelt down as a sign of respect and gratitude toward Shakira. “I love you. Thank you for this opportunity — I’ll never forget it. We love you!” the 36-year-old artist said, visibly moved. Shakira responded by kneeling alongside her and embracing her warmly, as the crowd erupted in applause. Shakira will continue her tour in Mexico, where she is scheduled to complete 17 shows as part of the second leg of Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.
She is set to return to Estadio GNP Seguros on Sept. 18, where she will make history as the first artist ever to perform 12 concerts from the same tour at the iconic venue (formerly known as Foro Sol).
