Shortly before the performance was set to begin on Sunday, the venue announced on social media that “due to a power outage at the Hollywood Bowl, tonight’s concert is canceled.” The announcement continued that if the show is rescheduled, tickets for the original performance date will be honored.

Joy also posted the news, sharing on Facebook that the “show tonight has been cancelled due to power outage from the heat.” Joy was to have been the night’s headliner, with support from the bands Grouplove and Tiny Habits.

A representative for the Hollywood Bowl says power at the venue has been restored and that the venue’s next show, Sept. 10’s Dudamel Leads Beethoven 9, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, is on track to happen.

Amid the heatwave, which began late last week, downtown Los Angeles saw a record-setting 112-degree heat on Friday (Sept. 6), with other cities in the greater Los Angeles area also seeing record temps over the weekend, according to KTLA. As of Sept. 9, the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power is currently reporting outages throughout the city. The heatwave is forecasted to break by mid-week.

This isn’t the first time heat has forced the cancellation of outdoor concerts. In July 2023, Disturbed canceled a Phoenix gig because their equipment wouldn’t turn on in the 117-degree heat. The month after, 50 Cent canceled a show at Phoenix’s Talking Stick Amphitheatre on a 116-degree day. The consistently hot city of Phoenix has set a new heat record this year, experiencing more than 100 days in a row of heat over 100 degrees.
