By: Madeline Alaimo

As Halloween approaches, Broadway is bringing more than just showstopping performances to the stage. These shows bring supernatural surprises, and most people don’t know that many acts currently on Broadway, perfectly align with the spooky season! Here are some Broadway shows that will keep you at the edge of your seat this Halloween season.

First, “The Rocky Horror Show.” This is a musical comedy about a young couple who stumble into a creepy mansion belonging to Dr. Frank-N-Furter. It’s a campy show that features high-energy and classic musical numbers. It also blends spooky and gothic aesthetics with an interactive environment that allows audiences to dress up.

You can never go wrong with the classic story of the witches of Oz.  “Wicked” is a great show for the whole family, and the music from this show is timeless. The visual effects are spectacular as well, and the cast is incredible. From flying monkeys to defying gravity, this is a show you won’t want to miss this fall.

Next, “Paranormal Activity” is a Broadway play, and an original psychological horror and thriller stage production. It takes inspiration from the hit Paramount Pictures film franchise by the same name. It’s about a young couple who move across the world but soon realize something is wrong. This production is unique because it allows the audience to have full reactions to the scary scenes on stage. The theater is immersive and interactive, while really making the audience feel like they are experiencing the same horror as the young couple on stage. If you like jump-scares, this is a must see.

“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” is a stage play that serves as a prequel to the hit series “Stranger Things.” It gives us a deeper look into Henry Creel’s childhood, as well as younger versions of parents seen on the show. The visual effects in this production are out of this world, and it offers the perfect amount of jump scares for Halloween as well. The acting in this production truly draws the audience in for the entirety of the show.

Finally, the best for last, “The Lost Boys.” A musical based on the hit 80s slasher, it follows the story of a family who move to Santa Carla, known as the “murder capital of the world,” what the family doesn’t know is that vampires are upon them. This production truly leaves the audience speechless by intermission, and the visual effects look so real. From the moving stage, to vampires flying across the scene, this musical is truly an unforgettable experience for everyone, and a perfect Halloween show.
