Ravens vs Dolphins

By Katie Jamroga

Last Thursday night, the Baltimore Ravens traveled down to Miami to face the Dolphins in a Thursday Night Football contest. It was a seemingly evenly-matched contest, with the Ravens having a record of 2-5 coming into the game and the Dolphins a 2-6 record. However, the Ravens managed to create a bigger point difference than viewers expected and went home with a 28-6 victory. Both teams are ranked third in their division as of after the game.

Miami kicker Riley Patterson was the only Dolphin who scored on Thursday, which was not even the first game the team had not seen the end zone this season. Two weeks prior, they lost 31-6 to the Cleveland Browns, scoring only off of two field goals. The same happened this week against the Ravens, which is a testament to the struggling season Miami has had. Further, the Dolphins have only beaten the New York Jets (1-7) and the Atlanta Falcons (3-4), both of whom have losing records at this point in the season.

On the winning end, quarterback Lamar Jackson threw four touchdowns for the Ravens, which is not even his season best so far. Week one against the Buffalo Bills, Jackson threw for four touchdowns and rushed for one. Week two against the Cleveland Browns, he threw for four touchdowns. Then, in week three, he threw for three and rushed for one. After his impressive start to the season, it looked like Jackson brought that same energy into week 9 against the Dolphins.

On the contrary, Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw one interception during Thursday’s contest. To the Dolphins’ chagrin, this was not Tagovailoa’s highest interception game this season, either. He threw two interceptions against the Indianapolis Colts in week one, three against the Chargers in week six, and three against the Browns in week seven.

So, the Ravens came out on top with their third win of the season. While both teams have losing records and will need to clean up their act to earn playoff games, the Dolphins have much to work on before they face the 5-2 Buffalo Bills on November 9. Baltimore will have a lighter workload leading up to their contest against the 3-4 Minnesota Vikings on the same day. Only time will tell if the two teams will learn from their mistakes and work magic before playoff time.
