Sombr Is No. 1 on Hot 100 Songwriters Chart: ‘Songwriting Is Where It All Began for Me’

Sombr has emerged as one of the hottest up-and-comers of 2025 thanks to his breakout singles “Undressed” and “Back to Friends.” His momentum continues on Billboard’s latest charts (dated Oct. 11), as he spends a fourth straight week at No. 1 on the Hot 100 Songwriters ranking.

He continues his hot streak at No. 1 thanks to three songwriting credits on the latest Billboard Hot 100: “Undressed” (No. 21), “Back to Friends” (No. 22) and “12 to 12” (No. 49). Sombr (real name Shane Boose) is the only credited songwriter on all three tracks, helping boost his chart points on Hot 100 Songwriters.

Sombr’s four weeks at No. 1 are the fifth-most in 2025, after Drake and Kendrick Lamar (10 weeks apiece), Charlie Handsome (six) and Mark Sonnenblick (five).

“Songwriting is where it all began for me, so to be No. 1 among so many incredible writers that I admire and respect is something I do not take for granted,” Sombr tells Billboard. “I wrote my album entirely on my own in my bedroom when in my teens, and to now be No. 1 on the Billboard songwriters chart again, the same week Taylor Swift gave me a shout-out, just blows my mind. I’m just so grateful for it all.”

He also spends a 22nd week at No. 1 on both the Rock & Alternative Songwriters and Alternative Songwriters charts and a 24th week atop Rock Songwriters.

Sombr also rises 11-7 on the latest Hot 100 Producers chart, hitting a new high thanks to his production on all three of his Hot 100 entries. Sombr is the sole producer behind “Back to Friends” and he co-produced “Undressed and “12 to 12” with Tony Berg (who ranks at No. 23 on Hot 100 Producers).

Sombr, Sabrina Carpenter and Jack Antonoff are the only artists currently ranked in the top 10 of both the Hot 100 Songwriters and Hot 100 Producers charts. Carpenter ranks at No. 5 on Hot 100 Songwriters and No. 9 on Hot 100 Producers, while Antonoff ranks at No. 7 on Hot 100 Songwriters and No. 8 on Hot 100 Producers.

Billboard’s songwriters charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter for each attributed song that appears on a respective “Hot” chart. So, for Sombr, all three of his Hot 100 entries contribute to his points total for Hot 100 Songwriters. For songs with multiple writers, every credited writer splits points equally (which occasionally leads to ties on rankings).
