Going Out With Myke Towers in Puerto Rico: ‘I Was Born in the Crib of Reggaetón’ | Takes Us Out

Myke Towers’ new album, Island Boyz, drops Thursday (July 17), and the Puerto Rican artist shares how his grandma influenced his love for music, why he didn’t see himself being a singer and how learning about discipline has helped him succeed. He also talks about getting DFZM, Quevedo and Gabby Ballesteros to collaborate with him, and answers whether he’d ever do an album in English and more!

Are you excited for Myke Towers’ new album? Let us know in the comments!

Myke Towers: A special greeting to all my beautiful people at Billboard, and I also want to say hi to all my island boys and all my island girls. We’re here in Puerto Rico, and I hope all of you can see this interview. You’re all welcome here — we’re going to have some seafood and I’m going to give you some details about what’s coming up, Island Boyz, baby.

Ingrid Fajardo: It’s so cool and nice to be here in your homeland. Thank you for having us here.

Thank you for coming here — you guys are always welcome. We’re here in San Juan, what we have going on in the background, everyone’s seen in photos and videos, but we’re home.

What’s that that I see over there on this side?

That’s the Castillo San Cristóbal, but it looks like el Morro, which is why people always get confused sometimes between the two because they’re iconic, but to me they’re historic.

I love the view. I always said in my other life that I am a little boricua.

To me Puerto Rico has always been, well what I say, the musical filter for many, many eras, or I say that people connect a lot with it.

Today, we’re going to have some boricuan food.

I’m ready for them to bring it out! I’m a little hungry

Keep watching for more!
