Alex Warren Breaks Out of a Tie With Ed Sheeran for U.K. Singles Chart Record
Alex Warren has reached new heights with a record-breaking moment for “Ordinary” as he secures a 12th consecutive week at the summit of the U.K. Singles Chart on Friday (June 6).
He is now the U.S. male solo act with the longest-running continuous stay at No. 1, besting Slim Whitman, who lasted 11 consecutive weeks at the summit with “Rose Marie” in 1955. “Ordinary” is also the longest-running No. 1 of the 2020s on the U.K. Singles Chart, breaking a tie with Ed Sheeran’s “Bad Habits” which had an 11-week run in 2021. Harry Styles’ “As It Was” (2022), Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” (2023), and Dave and Central Cee’s “Sprinter” (2023) all earned 10-week stays on the charts’
Only six songs lay claim longer stints at No. 1 in the U.K. Sheeran’s “Shape of You” (14 weeks, 2017), Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” (14 weeks, 1975), Drake’s “One Dance” (15 weeks, 2016), Wet Wet Wet’s “Love Is All Around” (15 weeks, 1994), Bryan Adams’ “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” (16 weeks, 1991) and Frankie Laine’s overall frontrunner “I Believe” (18 weeks, 1953).
In the latest Billboard Hot 100 update, Warren’s “Ordinary” took the No. 1 spot after 16 weeks on the chart, rising from No. 4 and dislodging Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae’s “What I Want.” Earlier this week, Warren announced the release of new LP You’ll Be Alright, Kid is set for July 18, and will include “Ordinary.”
Ravyn Lenae’s “Love Me Not” lifts one place to No. 2, while Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” slips one place to No. 3. sombr’s “undressed” holds steady at No. 4, while Skye Newman continues her rapid rise with “Family Matters” breaking into the top five for the first time (No. 5). Tate McRae’s “Just Keep Watching,” which appears in the upcoming F1 movie, enters at No. 6.
