UPDATE: Family of 5 dead in Sidney plane crash

UPDATE 11:15 a.m. Monday July 1, 2024: New York State Police announced the aircraft was located and all five passengers on board did not survive the crash.

Roger Beggs, 76, Laura VanEpps, 43, Ryan VanEpps, 42, James R. VanEpps,12, Harrison VanEpps, 10 were all confirmed dead. They were family members from Georgia who were in Cooperstown for a baseball tournament over the weekend.

The family left out of the Alfred S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta and were traveling to West Virginia to refuel on their way back home to Cobb County International Airport in Atlanta.

Over 20 local emergency departments assisted the New York State Police.


SIDNEY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A plane crashed near Sidney over the weekend with five people on board.

On Sunday, at approximately 2 p.m., a single-engine Piper PA-46 crashed. The plane departed from Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta.

The condition of the five passengers is unknown at this time. The FAA and NTSB are currently investigating the crash. Further details will be provided.
