Morning fire at two-family home on Park Ave., flames seen for blocks

SYRACUSE N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — On Sunday, June 30, at 11:12 a.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by a 911 call to the station of a reported house fire at 728 Park Avenue.

Multiple calls reported lots of flames coming from the two-and-a-half-story home. Firefighters say smoke could be seen from blocks away as crews raced to the scene.

When firefighters arrived at the home they found the flames coming from the back of the house on the second floor.

Firefighters say the fire was coming from the kitchen on the second floor.

As the fire in the kitchen was brought under control, firefighters found the fire had spread to the back stairwell and attic. A hole was cut in the roof to help release smoke and hot gases trapped in the house.

The fire was brought under control after approximately 30 minutes and put out after approximately 60 minutes.

Firefighters and investigators remained on the scene for more than four hours checking hot spots and clearing smoke from the home.

No one was hurt from the fire although at least two were displaced. The Red Cross is assisting them.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation.
