NYSDOT hosting open house for northside and Inner Harbor portion of I-81 project

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — You can learn more about the $2 billion I-81 Viaduct Project this evening, June 27.
The New York State Department of Transportation is hosting an open house tonight.
They will focus on the northside and Inner Harbor in the City of Syracuse as part of Contract 3 for the project.
You can learn about the plan to replace the bridges at Bear, Court and Spencer Streets.
“All three new bridges will include sidewalks, while shared use paths will be included on the Court and Spencer Street bridges to accommodate both bicyclists and pedestrians, connecting them from the northside to the Inner Harbor. Additional contract features include over 700 new trees, decorative street lighting, improved access to the Empire State Trail, new traffic signals and safety improvements at the on-ramp from Bear Street to Interstate 690 westbound,” said the NYSDOT.
If you’re interested in attending, it’s being held at OneGroup, 706 N. Clinton Street, in Syracuse from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The purpose of the I-81 Viaduct Project is to address the structural deficiencies and non-standard highway features of the 1.4-mile elevated structure in downtown Syracuse, while creating an improved corridor through the city of Syracuse that meets transportation needs and provides infrastructure to support long-range planning efforts
