Hepatitis A exposure from Ace Hardware in Rome

ROME, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Oneida County Health Department announced on Tuesday, June 18, that a person at Ace Hardware in Rome who did a food demonstration was infected with Hepatitis A.

People who consumed the food may have been exposed.

Those who ate the food on Saturday, June 8, must get a preventive Hepatitis A vaccine by Saturday, June 22.

Anyone who ate the food on Saturday, June 1, is past the window to receive an effective vaccine as it must be given within 14 days of exposure. They should still monitor themselves for symptoms, said the health department.

A vaccine can be given by a primary doctor or through the health department.

The health department will be holding a vaccine clinic on Friday, June 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Symptoms of Hepatitis A include:

  • Yellow skin or eyes
  • Lack of appetite
  • Upset stomach
  • Stomach pain
  • Vomiting
  • Fever

  • Joint pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
