Remembering CNY men who died after falling into manure tanker

CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Two communities are in mourning after two Central New York men were killed in a tragic farm accident on Thursday in Oneida County.
“Tyler would give his shirt off his back for you,” said Joe Nemier, assistant fire chief at Tully Fire Department.
“Great guy, family guy. Hard worker,” said Adam Daley, fire chief at Cuyler Fire Department.
29-year-old Tyler Memory of Tully and 33-year-old Nate Doody of Deruyter are being remembered as kind, caring, and hardworking. The two men tragically lost their lives on Thursday while working on Champion Farm in Clinton.

Police say one of them tried to grab a piece of equipment that fell into a manure tanker, but passed out and fell into the tanker. The other man tried to help but also passed out, falling into the tank. The two men also served their communities, working as volunteer firefighters.
“He loves to swim. Took his interior firefighter as soon as he came in. He’s been with the service for 15 years, still active and he was one of my best friends,” said Nemier.
Memory was a third-generation firefighter. He joined the Tully Fire Department when he was just 14 years old.
“His father was in the fire department, his mother was in the auxiliary. His grandfather was a firefighter for many years,” said Nemier.
Memory was known for driving a truck and was always eager to get to the scene. Just like, Doody.
“He drove trucks and that was a big part of being in the department here is driving these trucks, experienced being a truck driver,” said Daley.
The father of two joined the Cuyler Fire Department back in March of 2014. His wife was also a former volunteer firefighter.
“He was a family guy. He loved his girls. He brought them to the meetings, brought them to anything we did. I bring my kids, it’s a family-oriented fire department and he was a hard worker and a family guy,” said Daley.
Both Memory and Doody’s fire gear are still hanging in both lockers, ready to go to the next scene.
