Police clear scene in Chittenango Falls after an ‘unfounded abduction’


CHITTENANGO FALLS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — 911 received a call just before 11 a.m. on May 22 about a possible abduction on Route 13, near Chittenango Falls.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said the initial callers witnessed a female claiming she had been abducted. By the time deputies arrived on scene, the female and an unknown number of male subjects had fled the scene.
The sheriff’s office shut down the road between Chittenango and Cazenovia for hours, between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. while they searched for the person.

NewsChannel 9 heard from many viewers who were concerned about a large police presence throughout the day within the area.
The sheriff’s office says that at this time all subjects involved have been found following a lengthy police investigation, and three people are currently in custody for questioning. Adding that at this time the abduction claim was unfounded.
Route 13 has since been reopened, and police say there is no danger to the public.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by the New York State Police, New York State Environmental Conservation Police, New York State Park Police, Chittenango Police Department, Cazenovia Police, CAVAC and the Madison County Office of Emergency Management.
The investigation is ongoing and additional details will be released at a later time.
