Syracuse reaches 90° for the first time in 2024!

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) – As of 4 pm Tuesday, Syracuse reached 90 degrees, the warmest day in 2024 and the first time we have reached 90 degrees this year.

Prior to today, it had been a while since we’ve felt 90° or higher in Syracuse and CNY. How long? Since September 6th, or about 8 and a half months!

What’s the average first 90+ degree day in Syracuse? Answer…June 5th. So, this year we about two weeks ahead of schedule after being close to two weeks later than average for the first 80+ degree day. 

When did we feel our first 90+ degree in 2023? June 1st.

What’s the average number of 90+ degree days in Syracuse each year? About 10. In 2023 we felt 9 days of 90-degree heat, or about average.

The highest number of days Syracuse has felt 90+ degrees in a year is 28 back in 1955 and 26 in 2012 and 2002. Most recently in 2020 we had 21 days, or third highest number of 90+ degree days.

Lastly, when was the last time Syracuse had a year without any 90-degree days? Back in 2000 is the last time we didn’t have even one!
