State Police investigating death of Indian River student


WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – New York State Police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old student that attended Indian River High School.
Authorities in Watertown responded to a private residence in the village of Evans Mills for an unconscious male laying in the driveway.
State Police said that Jordan Drake from Theresa passed away early on Sunday morning. A preliminary investigation revealed the male was attending an after-prom event at a private residence in the town of Theresa earlier in the evening.
The district made a post on the school’s Facebook page about the passing on Sunday.
“All students, staff, and members of our community are encouraged to join together tomorrow, Monday, May 20, 2024 and wear blue and white. We are one school, one family, one community, and we stand together both in times of celebration and of great tragedy. Many of us are hurting right now and will depend on those bonds of support, friendship, and togetherness, so please join us in wearing blue and white tomorrow to show just how strong we can be together.”
The investigation is currently ongoing according to state police officials. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Evans Mills Ambulance.
