Your Stories Q&A: Do I need receipts to file a claim in Walmart settlement?

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — You ask, we answer!

Question: Do I need receipts to file a claim in Walmart’s multi-million dollar settlement?

You could be eligible to get hundreds of dollars in cash from Walmart, but it’s going to take some work on your end.

According to an article published earlier this month by Nexstar’s Taylor Delandro, The class action lawsuit, alleges Walmart shoppers across the U.S. and Puerto Rico who purchased certain sold-by-weight meat and seafood and select citrus sold in bulk bags paid more than the lowest price advertised in stores.

Walmart agreed to 45 million dollars to settle but denies any wrongdoing.

If you purchased certain weighted meat, seafood and bagged citrus products between Oct. 19, 2018, and Jan. 19, 2024, file a claim here.

Do I need receipts to file a claim?

No, but you won’t be eligible to collect as much money as you would with proof of receipts.

From our April, 8 article:

Consumers without proof of purchase can receive between $10 and $25, depending on how many eligible products they attest to buying during the settlement class period.

Those with receipts or other documentation may get 2% of the total cost for each purchased product — up to $500.

What if I didn’t keep receipts?

You’ll need to scour your bank/credit card statements to see when you shopped at Walmart. Once you have a date, you can use Walmart’s receipt lookup.

The deadline to file online or by mail is June 5th.
