More showers Sunday, few storms possible

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) – After a blustery, raw start to the weekend, thankfully it is milder with less wind Sunday. However, more rain is on the way for everyone, and it may turn a bit stormy for a few. Who has the best potential to see a strong storm or two? Find out below…
Any better Sunday?
Our weather will remain unsettled at times as we close out the weekend. It’s not as windy or chilly Sunday, but we’re still dealing with some rain showers and possibly a few afternoon storms for areas near and especially south of Syracuse.
Highs on Sunday will generally be in the 50s to around 60. Cooler conditions and highs closer to 50 will be found up north toward Watertown, while some areas south and west of Syracuse climb into the low to potentially mid-60s.

Severe storm threat
A fast-moving area of low pressure is blowing through CNY Sunday afternoon with some rain showers at times during the morning ahead of the storm system, followed by a developing line of heavier showers and possibly a few thunderstorms near and south of Syracuse.

At this point, it appears areas south of Syracuse across the southern Finger Lakes have the best chance to sneak into the warm sector and experience thunderstorm development Sunday afternoon. This is where there’s a risk of seeing an isolated strong to severe thunderstorm possibly producing damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph.
Turns drier to start the new week
As the fast-moving system moves out of CNY late Sunday afternoon/early evening, so too will the shower threat for the most part Sunday night into Monday as high pressure starts to build in.
There’s only a slight risk of a passing shower late Sunday night, and possibly a passing shower or two through lunch time Monday, especially north and east of Syracuse.

It’s comfortable and slightly milder than average Monday along with some afternoon sunshine. Highs will be between 55 and 60 to start the week.

High pressure tracks south of us into central Pennsylvania on Tuesday with lots of sunshine expected and high temperatures rising into the mid-60s.
