Three injured, including firefighter, during morning fire in Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Just before 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, Syracuse Firefighters were sent to a basement fire at 1119 West Onondaga Street.
Crews arrived at the scene and were met with smoke and fire coming from the door of the basement apartment.

According to Syracuse Fire, the apartment was one of seven in a three-story, wood-frame building set back on a hill.
As firefighters stretched a hose line up the stairs built into the hill, a signal ‘99’ — to ask for assistance from other units — was transmitted.
Crews searched the home and found no trapped occupants.
According to the Syracuse Fire Department, there was large amounts of smoke, flames, and high heat coming from the home.
They cut a hole in the roof to ventilate smoke.
“The basement apartment where the fire began suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage. The remaining apartments in the building also suffered moderate smoke damage,” said SFD.
The fire was put out after 40 minutes.
At least six people were displaced and were assisted by the Red Cross.
Two people from the building suffered from smoke inhalation. They were evaluated and treated at the scene and released.
A firefighter suffered an upper-body injury, was treated at the scene, and then taken to a local facility for treatment. That firefighter is currently in stable condition.
Syracuse Fire Investigators were at the scene working to determine the cause of the fire, which originated in the basement apartment. That investigation is ongoing.
A total of 42 Fire Department personnel responded to this incident, including command and support staff. Syracuse Fire Department Ambulance, Syracuse Police, American Medical Response, National Grid, and the American Red Cross also responded to the scene.
