Driver in Manlius school bus incident pleads not guilty

MANLIUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The driver who illegally passed a stopped school bus in Manlius earlier this month has pleaded not guilty to his charges.

On Thursday, April 11, Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick announced that during the arraignment proceedings, 66-year-old Quang Van Pham of Syracuse entered a plea of not guilty to his charges including failing to stop for a school bus, moving from a lane unsafely, reckless driving and more.

Pham’s charges stem from him being caught on camera driving a 2010 Toyota Camry, speeding past a stopped school bus on Highbridge Road on Thursday, March 28.

Pham’s criminal charges include Reckless Endangerment 2nd under Penal Law 120.20, and the Vehicle and Traffic offenses of Reckless Driving, Moved from Lane Unsafely, Failed to Stop for School Bus, Following Too Closely and Speed Not Reasonable & Prudent.

Upon the request of the District Attorney’s Office, and with Pham’s consent, the Court suspended his driver’s license pending the outcome of the prosecution under VTL 510 3-A.

The Court has scheduled his next appearance in this case for May 15, 2024.
