Eight Earn All-Region Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse has placed eight players on the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Northeast Region Team. The student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American Team.
 
Graduate students Emily Hawryschuk and Sam Swart, seniors Sarah Cooper and Meaghan Tyrrell and juniors Kate Mashewske and Emma Tyrrell are All-Region First Team honorees, while senior Megan Carney and sophomore Katie Goodale were selected to the second team.
 
Hawryschuk ranks second on the team in points (83), goals (60) and assists (23). She has scored four or more goals in eight games. Hawryschuk became Syracuse’s all-time leader in goals scored this season and enters Friday’s NCAA Tournament with 269 career goals.
 
Swart has started all 18 games in the midfield for the Orange. She has recorded 38 points on 25 goals and a career-high 13 assists. Swart has also tied her career high with 18 ground balls to go along with six caused turnovers and three draw controls.
 
Cooper anchors the Syracuse defense that has held its opponents to less than 10 goals in six contests in 2022. She has posted 23 ground balls, 18 caused turnovers and 46 draw controls, including a career-high 10 against Virginia in the ACC Tournament. Cooper has also scored a goal and dished out two assists.
 
Meaghan Tyrrell leads the Orange and ranks sixth in the nation in points (99) and eighth in goals (67). She has scored four or more goals in 11 games this season. In addition, Tyrrell is tied for first in the ACC with six game-winning goals.
 
Mashewske is sixth in the nation in draw controls per game, averaging 8.50 per contest. Her 153 draw controls this season rank fourth on Syracuse’s single-season record list. Mashewske has recorded 10 or more draw controls 10 times this season, including five of the last six contests.
 
Emma Tyrrell started the first 12 games of the year before suffering a season-ending injury. She recorded 50 points on 30 goals and 20 assists as well as a career-high 64 draw controls. Tyrrell scored multiple goals 10 in 10 contests and posted three or more goals four times.
 
Carney has scored three or more goals in seven of the 13 contests in which she has played this season. Overall, she has 46 points on 30 goals and 16 assists. Carney recorded her 200th career point against Virginia in the ACC Tournament when she scored three goals and dished out an assist.
 
Goodale has made an immediate impact on the ‘Cuse defense in her first year as a starter. She leads the team and ranks fifth in the ACC in caused turnovers per game (1.28). Goodale also is tied for second on the squad with 23 ground balls.
 
The IWLCA will announce the 2022 All-American teams on May 26.
