Starting Five Named to All-ACC Academic Team

All five starters from the 2021-22 women’s basketball team have been named to the 2022 All-ACC Academic Team, announced Tuesday by the league office. Teisha Hyman headlines the group as a two-time honoree while Chrislyn Carr, Christianna Carr, Naje Murray and Alaysia Styles are all first time recipients. Syracuse is tied with Louisville for the most selections (five). 

The All-ACC Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 during their athletic career and had a 3.0 or higher in the previous semester. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in All-ACC Academic Team selections. 

Hyman led the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals on her way to earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. She was fifth in the ACC in scoring average (16.2 ppg) and assists per game (3.9) and second in steals per game (2.52). The White Plains, N.Y. native is in her third year studying environmental & interior design in Syracuse’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. 

Christianna Carr played and started in all 29 games for the Orange this season. She led the team in free throw percentage (.917) and was third in the league (min. 25 games). Carr will graduate from Syracuse with a degree in communication and rhetorical studies in May from the College of Visual and Performing Arts. 

Chrislyn Carr, started all 29 games for Syracuse and was second on the team in scoring with 14.2 points per game, which was ninth in the ACC. The senior point guard led the Orange in field goal percentage (.440) amd shot a team-best 37.2 percent from behind the arc. She will graduate from Syracuse’s College of Visual and Performing Arts with a degree in communication and rhetorical studies in May. 

Murray, a graduate student in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, captained the 2021-22 squad. She started in all 28 games she appeared in averaging 11.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Murray tallied a season-high 23 points in a win over Virginia and scored in double figures 16 times throughout the season. She will earn her masters degree in Sport Management in August 2022. 

Styles played in all 28 games she appeared in for the Orange as Syracuse’s only true post player. The San Diego, Calif., native averaged 10.3 points and was tied for a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game. Styles had a career-high 21 points in a road win against Pittsburgh shooting a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line. She tallied a season-high 15 rebounds in a win over Colgate and will earn her masters degree in television, radio and film from Syracuse’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications this summer. 

Syracuse’s five All-ACC Academic Team selections is the most for the Orange since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference. It marks the first time Syracuse has had more than three Academic All-Conference selections since four Orange were picked to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in 2011.
