Hawryschuk Earns National Player of the Week Accolades

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse graduate student Emily Hawryschuk is this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Offensive Player of the Week. She tallied 14 points on eight goals and six assists against a pair of top-10 opponents last week.

Hawryschuk recorded a career-high nine points in an overtime loss at No. 6 Northwestern. Her six goals against the Wildcats are a season high. Hawryschuk followed that performance with two goals and three assists in the Orange’s 18-16 win against No. 7 Duke. All three of her assists came in the second half as Syracuse rallied from a seven-goal first quarter deficit. Hawryschuk assisted on the first goal of the third quarter, which sparked the Orange on a 4-0 scoring run that tied the game at 12-12. She also assisted on Sam Swart’s goal with 22 seconds remaining that put the game out of reach and kept Syracuse undefeated in ACC play.

The Victor, N.Y. native continues her climb up the Syracuse record lists. She now has 278 career points, which tie her for fifth place in program history, while her 226 goals tie for fourth place.

It marks the fourth straight week that a member of the Orange has earned a Player of the Week honor. Meaghan Tyrrell was the USA Lacrosse Player of the Week after the opening weekend of the season, while Megan Carney was the IWLCA Offensive Player of the Week after leading Syracuse past then No. 4 Stony Brook. Emma Tyrrell was last week’s ACC Offensive Player of the Week.

Hawryschuk and the No. 3 Orange (5-1, 2-0) start a three-game road trip on Saturday, March 12 at No. 14 Virginia at noon.
