As the Orange prepare for their season opener against Stanford, take a moment to learn more about senior midfielder Sierra Cockerille.
How old were you when you started playing lacrosse, and why did you start playing?
I was 8 years old and I started playing because my neighbor was a lacrosse coach. He really wanted me to play. I had just moved to town, so I went out and tried it and I loved it. I actually wanted to play boys lacrosse until I found out that I couldn’t, so I played girls.
What other sports did you play growing up?
I played football, I wrestled, I was a cheerleader, and also played field hockey, volleyball, and basketball.
How did these other sports help you develop as a lacrosse player?
I think playing a lot of sports when you’re young teaches you to be a better teammate and a better person.
Why did you choose Syracuse?
I had been coming to camp here since fifth grade so it always felt like home.
What area of your game did you focus on improving this offseason?
Shooting left-handed and my dodges.
What is your major, and what do you want to do after school?
I major in human development and family science, and I would really like to be a coach when I graduate.
What’s your go-to road trip snack?
Buffalo Wing Cheez-Its. They’re Coop’s [Sarah Cooper’s] and my favorite.
Go-to road trip movie?
I think Forrest Gump is a great bus movie.
Most fashionable teammate?
I’d say Jayln Jimerson.
