Laundry Day Interview
By: Madeline Alaimo
Laundry Day, a pop band from New York City, joined Maddie, Cate, and Daniel in the studio today to talk about their tour, their most recent album, and some of their favorite experiences they’ve had as a band. They are currently on the Time of Your Life Tour, making their stop in Syracuse with a performance at The Song & Dance venue tonight.
The band just performed in Amherst, MA, and with only being in Syracuse for about 10 hours so far, they have already made the most of it. The last time they came to Syracuse was in 2023, and one thing they’ve definitely missed since being gone was the food, particularly Dinosaur BBQ.
While being on tour, the band also reflected on their favorite songs to perform and which songs were their favorite to write. They love the positive response that their new album is getting from their fans, particularly the way “people seem to be responding to the new music in a way they really haven’t before.” Some fan favorites from their new album are “Aperol Spritz” and “Medicine.” The band claims that “Aperol Spritz” was the best song to write because it was such a fun process, where they were “joking around” throughout the whole thing, and “riffing different lines,” which made the process less serious and more lighthearted. While writing, they were “sitting there trying to make each other laugh” with every line, which demonstrates the cheerful dynamic that the bandmates have with each other. Another favorite song of theirs to write is actually an unreleased song that they wrote with a friend, claiming “it was a beautiful moment where someone new comes into the studio and brings a new energy, and it turned into something really magical.”
Being from NYC, the band talked about how they didn’t know how immersed they were in a “playground of inspiration” until they got older. From playing in tiny clubs, to performing at a Knick’s game at Madison Square Garden, the bandmates claim they “didn’t have to worry about making too much noise.” Performing at the Knick’s game for them was “surreal,” as it was “unfathomable” for them to come to terms with the amount of people in the venue. They claim that the staff of Madison Square Garden and the Knicks are very friendly and remember their faces easily, making it feel like a “local community theater” where they even met Spike Lee and the Rizzler.
The band also talked about how social media has changed the trajectory of their career. They saw social media as a way to tell the world that they were doing this. Towards the beginning of starting their platform, they didn’t think to point the camera on the “friendship and camaraderie” that they had, however, this is what makes them stand out and it was exactly what the fans were looking for. They claim that they “wish they were in an era where these things didn’t matter as much,” because now you have to make sure to find a way to stand out.
Towards the end of the interview, the band reflected on one item they each can’t live without. In addition to just a basic computer, the members agreed on their matching iPhone 5Cs, where and their “brilliant” and “ultra swaggy” cameras.
The band is very excited to perform in Syracuse tonight! Looking back, they had a very rainy show here back in 2023, but they claim that they will tell that story for the rest of their lives. “Let’s have some fun tonight, Syracuse!”
