J Balvin Joins Benny Jamz and Gilli’s Afro-Fusion Party Jam ‘Reposado Remix’
In our Latin Remix of the Week series, we spotlight remixes that the Billboard Latin and Billboard Español editors deem to be exceptional and distinct from the rest. We might not publish a review every week. This is our selection today.
Benny Jamz and Gilli’s original “Reposado” already established itself as one of Denmark’s standout pop-infused hip-hop tracks, but the remix, featuring J Balvin, takes it into an entirely new dimension — a celebration of cross-cultural fusion and global festival energy. Dropped earlier this week (Dec. 31), this is the kind of track we’ll be bumping all weekend to kick off a new year.
Known for their magnetic chemistry, Danish-Jamaican rapper/producer Benny Jamz, and Gilli, one of Denmark’s most-streamed artists, delivered slick verses in their native tongue and breezy beats on the 2024 original (from their joint album KENNY), blending reggaetón-tinged, Afro-house rhythms with lyrical “bachata” and “reposado” shout-outs, of course. But the remix ups the ante: the Colombian superstar injects his unmistakable Medellín heat into the track.
From the opening moment, the remix grabs you with its infectious party energy. J Balvin’s verses, delivered in Spanish, add a bold sense of bravado into the track. “Me dicen el paisa porque llegué de Medallo / En Dinamarca carrier y caballo,” he spits mid-song.
The remix comes hot on the heels of “J Balvin: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 66/66,” which dropped last week (Dec. 26).
True to its message, “Reposado Remix” tells us that partying is a universal language, whether you’re sipping Casamigos in Copenhagen or dancing to bachata in a humid Medellín nightclub.
