Watch Charli XCX Tumble Down Rabbit Hole of Fame in Electric First Trailer For ‘The Moment’

Charli xcx tumbles into the wormhole of global adulation in the thrilling first look at The Moment, a mockumentary based on an original idea hatched by the singer. The 90-second trailer of the Aidan Zamiri-directed movie dropped on Thursday morning (Dec. 11) and it opens with fellow it-girl Rachel Sennott getting squirmy about a film crew shooting footage of her backstage.

“Um… Charli… wait, don’t record,” Sennott says. “Oh, no. No. It’s fine, they’re with me,” Charli assures the I Love L.A. actress amid the green room hustle and bustle as Sennott grits her teeth and asks for confirmation that the footage will be deleted.

Mixing actual tape of Charli on The Late Show talking about her smash Brat album with a pulsating, retro synth backbeat and flashing strobe effects and images from the real Brat tour, the preview gives a peek behind pop star machinations and the work that goes into making the illusion real.

In one scene Charli, wearing a tan outfit with a shimmering gold scarf, busts a few frantic dance moves in a mirror wondering, “is it weird when I do that?” An unseen voice assures her, “no, I like it,” even as she questions whether the moves are odd. At another point, while sitting in a room and reviewing footage along with her team, Charli asks, “is it kind of… painful?”

The highs and lows of sudden global superstardom take their toll in ways big and small, including what might have been a sweet encounter with a superfan who tells Charli she saved his life while handing over a most unusual portrait her drew of the singer. “Oh… thanks,” she tells him. When actress Hailey Benton Gates assures Charli “you’re not going to die after an album cycle” as the pop star chugs a glass of wine, Charli shoots back, “I might!”

The clip ends with a run-through of stage bit in which a facsimile of Charli crashes to the stage, with the mannequin breaking into a million pieces in a seeming total fail. “Is that me?,” she asks from behind huge, dark shades. “That’s supposed to be you, yeah,” a handler assures her.

The film, which also stars Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Alexander Skarsgård, Kylie Jenner, Rish Shah, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Trew Mullen, Shygirl and A. G. Cook, will debut at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in January.
