BLACKPINK’s LISA to Co-Star In ‘Extraction’ Universe Action Movie ‘Tygo’ For Netflix
LISA of BLACKPINK has scored her next big acting gig. According to Variety, the K-pop superstar will appear alongside Korean action veteran Don Lee (Train to Busan, Eternals) and Squid Game star Lee Jin-uk in an expansion of Netflix’s Extraction film franchise titled Tygo.
The movie is based on an original graphic novel created by sibling duo Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame) and Ande Parks, with the Russo brothers also signed on as producers. The story follows Tygo (Lee), a former child-soldier-turned-mercenary who goes on a revenge mission through the Korean criminal underworld after a job goes sideways.
“I’m so honored to be a part of this project and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such incredible actors,” Lisa said in a statement about the project that will be directed by Lee Sang-yong (The Roundup). “Being in an action movie has always been a dream of mine, so for my film debut to be such an exciting project feels very special.”
Lee was also excited to sign on, saying, “I’m thrilled that this project, which I’ve been developing for years with AGBO, is finally moving into production. Tygo brings a distinctly Korean identity into the global Extraction universe. We can’t wait to unleash its explosive energy on audiences worldwide.” Jin-uk added, “As a fan of the ‘Extraction’ franchise, it’s a great honor for me to join this universe. I’m especially excited and grateful to be working with Don, whom I’ve always admired, and with Lisa as well.”
Lisa (credited by her given name Lalisa Manobal) made her acting debut in this year’s third season of The White Lotus.
The first Extraction film in the franchise was been seen by 90 million households in its first four weeks, with the second chapter hanging around at No. 1 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 movies list for seven weeks, racking up more than 123 million views, according to Variety.
