‘A Present We Can All Enjoy’: Kelly Clarkson to Headline Netflix’s NFL Christmas Game Day Open
This year, there will be more to wake up to on Christmas morning besides presents underneath the tree — and that’s Kelly Clarkson on Netflix’s Christmas football game-day broadcast.
Netflix announced on Thursday (Dec. 11) that the vocalist will open the show with a high-energy, festive performance of her holiday hit “Underneath the Tree,” taking the stage before the back-to-back NFL games streaming live on Netflix on Dec. 25. In a video sharing the news, Clarkson looks glamorous in a shimmery dress and red lipstick while on stage with her band and says cheerfully, “Hey, what’s up, y’all?”
“It’s Kelly Clarkson, and this year, I’m kicking off NFL Christmas Game Day live on Netflix,” she continues. “Two great football games on Christmas Day? That’s a present we can all enjoy.”
The streamer also has a halftime show — last year performed by Beyoncé with special guests Shaboozey and Post Malone — in the works, but the headliner will be announced on a later date. Pregame coverage is set to kick off at 11 a.m. ET, followed by a 1 p.m. kickoff at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md., for the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Washington Commanders game.
The second game of Christmas will be between the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings, beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
“Underneath the Tree” is one of the most enduring Christmas hits of the 21st Century. One of just 16 holiday songs to ever reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 — with an overall peak of No. 9 this past January — the track re-entered the chart in November and sits at No. 11 on the latest ranking.
