Watch Misty Copeland Dance to Cynthia Erivo’s Haunting Live Performance of ‘No Good Deed’ From ‘Wicked: For Good’

Wicked fans just got their first glimpse at what Cynthia Erivo‘s take on fan-favorite Elphaba number “No Good Deed” will sound like — but not in the way they might have expected.

On Friday (Nov. 14), the Tony winner appeared in a video with Misty Copeland for a “reimagined” take on the ballad, opening with the two women wearing gorgeous gowns and standing several feet apart in a warm room lit by chandeliers. As Erivo sings over a haunting string accompaniment, she draws nearer and nearer to the ballerina, who twists, turns and arabesques to the music.

“No good deed goes unpunished/ That’s my new creed,” the vocalist belts effortlessly as the music and Copeland’s choreography intensifies. “My road of good intentions led where such roads always lead.”

After Erivo nails a custom riff on the final note, she and Copeland take hands and strike a stunning pose side by side.

The video comes exactly one week ahead of the premiere of Wicked: For Good, the sequel to last year’s Wicked and the long-awaited finale to the biggest live-action adaptation of a Broadway musical in history. Erivo’s version of “No Good Deed” will be one of several songs on the Part 2 soundtrack, which will also feature two brand-new songs performed by the Pinocchio star and Ariana Grande.

As the international release of For Good approaches, the Wicked cast has been attending premieres all over the world, with stops in Brazil, Paris, London and Singapore. The latter was particularly notable as Erivo made headlines for her quick reflexes in response to a man jumping over the red-carpet barricade and charging at Grande, physically prying him away from her co-star. The man has since been arrested and charged with being a “public nuisance,” according to reports.
