Kehlani Says Her ‘Gratitude Is Endless’ After ‘Folded’ Becomes Her First Hot 100 Top 10 Hit
Kehlani celebrated a new career milestone when her R&B smash “Folded” reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week (chart dated Nov. 8).
“First top 10 on Billboard. lucky #7 gratitude is endless,” they wrote on Instagram Monday (Nov. 3) prior to performing “Folded” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that night.
Following its initial release in June, Kehlani dropped an Homage Pack EP last month featuring remixes of the song with Toni Braxton, Brandy, JoJo, Mario, Ne-Yo and Tank that helped “Folded” surge seven spots on the all-genre songs tally. The song is also their first top 10 on Streaming Songs and Radio Songs and first No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot R&B Songs.
“I just really thought it was a really cool way to come back into music after I hadn’t put out music for a while. And I was pretty confident about it. I thought it was a good song,” Kehlani told her five-year-old daughter, Adeya Nomi Parrish Young-White, during a recent Billboard Family interview about why she put out “Folded,” adding that she’s working on a new album coming out next year.
Prior to “Folded,” Kehlani’s feature on “Safe” from Cardi B‘s Billboard 200-topping sophomore album was their highest-charting song on the Hot 100, peaking at No. 26 (two spots higher than the peak of “Ring,” Kehlani and Cardi’s collab from the latter’s 2018 debut album Invasion of Privacy). “Safe” reached No. 1 on Rhythmic Airplay this week, becoming Cardi’s 10th leader and Kehlani’s second (one month after “Folded” topped the chart for one week).
