Do you believe in soulmates? How about fate?
Something’s got to be out there bringing people together serendipitously, and Dua Lipa and her boyfriend Callum Turner’s love story is proof that soulmates just might be real. The pair met and eventually fell in love all thanks to a certain book. That book: 2023 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Trust by Hernán Díaz.
The Díaz novel is currently available on Amazon, $14 for a hardcover version, $12.99 for Kindle, $9.31 paperback and 99 cents for an audiobook version. If you don’t have an Amazon account, you can also shop a hardcover version of the book at Barnes & Noble for $28. There is also an audiobook version, paperback and large print versions that you can shop. The 2022 novel is fiction and situated into four parts: “Bonds,” “My Life,” “A Memoir, Remembered” and “Futures.” It aims at exploring wealth, power and truth through four different accounts of a wealthy financier and his wife in 1920s New York.
According to an interview Turner did with The Times, the pair met over drinks in L.A. before a mutual friend’s birthday and the connection was something out of a rom-com. “We sat next to each other and realised we were reading the same book, which is crazy. It’s called Trust [by Hernán Díaz] and I had just finished the first chapter and I told her and she looked at me and said, ‘I just finished the first chapter too.’ I said, ‘So we’re on the same page.’”
The same chapter at the same time? Well that has to be fate, right? “In the movie version of it I look up to the sky and I’m like, I hear you. I understand. The signs are loud, don’t worry. And that was really the first [moment],” Turner added.
The novel isn’t just a hit with Lipa and her boo. Beyond the Pulitzer Prize accolade, the Diaz novel has also received the Kirkus Prize for Fiction in 2022 and was named one of the 10 Best Books of the Year by The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR and Time magazine. If that wasn’t enough, a limited series starring Kate Winslet is currently in development at HBO, according to Variety. Todd Haynes has been set as writer and director of the project. A release date has not been announced yet.
