Taylor Swift Inspired Fans to Raise Over $2 Million for Otter Conservation Just by Wearing a T-Shirt

Taylor Swift is one powerful woman. Just by wearing an aquarium’s T-shirt in a small snippet of her The Release Party of a Showgirl film, the pop star inspired countless fans to seek one out for themselves — raising $2 million for otter conservation in the process.

In an online statement shared Thursday (Oct. 16), the Monterey Bay Aquarium revealed that so many Swifties had purchased one of the shirts online, the clothing item is now on back order. The T-shirt sported by Swift was first printed in the 1990s, and after her fashion choice in the Showgirl movie sparked new interest in the design, the aquarium released a line of re-printed tees available by donation.

“Your response was beyond our Wildest Dreams,” read Monterey Bay’s statement. “We hear you loud and clear, and we’re so grateful for the All Too Well kind of love this fundraising campaign has received.”

At press time, the fundraiser — which supports sea otter habitat restoration and rehabilitation in California — had surpassed $2.2 million.

Aside from the fact that Swift’s otter tee is both adorable and chartable, Swifties have a lot of reasons to love the marine mammals. The 14-time Grammy winner revealed on fiancé Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast that she has been loving watching videos of otters on social media, as curated for her by the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.

“All I really use the internet for is sourdough and when Travis shows me videos of otters on his Instagram algorithm,” she quipped at the time.
