Earlier this week, Minaj looked to deliver an empowering message for her Barbz on the social media platform, writing, “Idk who needs to hear this, but you’re beautiful.”

Nicki’s post got onto James Blunt’s radar on Thursday (Oct. 23), and the “You’re Beautiful” artist had some fun with the Young Money rapper. “You’re a little slow to the party,” he quipped in response to her post.

Blunt’s post quickly went viral and has compiled more than 200,000 likes on X. The replies represented a generational divide, as some weren’t in on the joke and others enjoyed a laugh at the recall to his 2005 single, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2006.

“Barbz Chill he was playful because he got a song called you are beautiful. I know some of ya’ll are very young,” one person attempted to clarify in an effort to calm some angry Nicki fans.

Minaj eventually saw Blunt’s viral reply and tipped her cap to the British artist. “Touché,” she wrote on Friday.

“You’re Beautiful” landed on Blunt’s Back to Bedlam debut album in October 2004. The track gained momentum after being released as a single in May 2005, and eventually became a ubiquitous hit in the U.S., topping the Billboard Hot 100. It replaced Beyoncé’s “Check on It” at the Hot 100’s summit before being replaced by NE-YO’s “So Sick.”

At the time, Blunt became the first British artist to top the Hot 100 since Elton John in 1997. “You’re Beautiful” received three Grammy nominations for song of the year, record of the year and best male pop vocal performance.
