Kehlani Gets Interviewed by Her Daughter Adeya | Billboard Family

Singer and songwriter Kehlani sits down with her daughter, Adeya, to discuss the success of her single “Folded,”  if new music is on the way and what she loves most about their relationship. 

Adeya: Hi. My name is Adeya, and I’m interviewing my mommy for Billboard Family. Tell me about how you created your song “Folded.”

Kehlani: I was working with my friends. I was in Miami on a work trip, and I heard the beat, and I love the beat, and so I took it in a room, and me, Uncle Kamal, Uncle Dixon, Aunt Jenna, we all sat in the room, and we made the song together, and we were just really excited about it. We thought maybe we should put the song out.

Adeya: Why did you want to release that song?

Kehlani: I just really thought it was a really cool way to come back into music after I hadn’t put out music for a while, and I was pretty confident about it. I thought it was a good song. Do you think it’s a good song? Do you like it? As long as you like it, I love it.

Adeya: What is it like seeing the “Folded” challenge on TikTok?

Kehlani: How did you do that eyebrow one more time? Um, I don’t know what’s crazy because it just happened naturally. And you know, we did it. We had to do it’s not frozen.

Adeya: Brandy sang your song, too. What was that like?

Kehlani: It was really crazy. She’s my favorite. Do you know she’s my favorite? You know she’s my favorite. Well, you have taste. She’ll be your favorite, too, one day.
